What We
Do
Without
and doubt, the agenda and concerns of Continental
Africans
brought
to the attention of City, State and even the Federal
Government level. Our members and leaders are consulted
by decision makers in the Media, Labor, Law Enforcement
Government, Entrepreneurial and Religions as well as our
leaders in the Continent of Africa.
Among
the accomplishments so far achieved by the United
African Congress, Inc., the following, not in order of
importance stand out:
Justice
and Equality
We
continue to fight for justice and speak out against
Police brutality as we did in the two cases of the late
Amadou Diallo and Ousmane Zango.
We have
supported and participated in activities and programs
organized Labor. Example, we were present at the
Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride rally on Saturday October
4, 2003 at Flushing Meadows, Queens.
We have
facilitated and resolved Vendor/Landlord disputes
between our Continental African Vendors with Malcolm
Shabazz Management. We have also visited and addressed
the African Art Dealers issue at the Chelsea Pier
Warehouse.
We have
been very instrumental in organizing the United Livery
Drivers and Base Owners Association in New York City.
Their leadership is now working with the United African
Congress, Inc. to advocate for the rights of 10 Base
Owners and almost 5000 African Livery Cab Drivers in New
York City..
We have
mediated Employment discrimination cases involving
Continental Africans on Wall Street Financial Business
houses in which we obtained successful monetary
settlements for victims of discrimination.
Employment & Economic Opportunity
We have
hosted African Investment Opportunity receptions for
African government seeking investments to their
countries. The Republics of Sierra Leonie and Liberia
are two recent examples..
We have
been working with the NYPD Chief of Police in Staten
Island to re-open the “Tree Market Program” that was
shut down due to quality of life issues and problems.
